It's Sign-up Time for April 30 Smith Rock Spring Thing Projects
April 22, 2022
The Smith Rock Group is back after a two-year COVID hiatus with its annual Smith Rock Spring Thing, a volunteer park maintenance event that has attracted about 200 people per year. Since 1993, this non-profit organization organizes projects with the park staff that has replaced wooden steps, rebuilt rock walls, repaired fences, pulled weeds, and much more. Each year volunteers show up bright and early, eager to repair the well-worn trails from such heavy visitation to Smith Rock. With retaining walls crumbling, social trails multiplying, and other signs of erosion in the park, they need your help more than ever!
Spring Thing 2022 is set for next Saturday, April 30, 2022, at Smith Rock State Park. Join them for a day of trail work projects, restoration work, clean-up initiatives, and community! Note that you will only be able to register for the event online, and in advance – no day-of sign-ups.
Volunteers will receive a free light breakfast along with swag, goodies, and some amazing prizes from their generous sponsors. There is no dinner or auction this year, but they hope to bring it back in 2023!
