The Bivy area (affectionately known) at Smith Rock State Park is a SEASONAL walk-in campground.




Space is available on a first-come-first-served basis. Reservations are not accepted.

Overnight camping in vehicles, campers and/or trailers is not allowed. Check out the Campgrounds page for links to vehicle campgrounds.


AT A GLANCE:

  • Open for camping from March 15- November 15

  • Day-use parking permits are not valid in the bivouac area.

  • Camping permits will be sold on a nightly basis for up to 14 days max with no need to move each day—just buy a new pass for your car dashboard before 1 pm. 

  • Check-in is at 4 pm and check-out is at 1 pm at the drive-up kiosk. Your pass will be honored at the day use lots upon check-out if you stay the day.

  • Fees are $12 per person per night for Oregon residents, $15 as of July 1, 2025 for non-residents. It includes the parking permit for the next day and use of the showers.

  • The fee station takes credit cards only.

  • Refunds will not be given to those who purchase a permit without finding a designated parking spot in the campground first. 

  • Vehicles parked in the bivouac area need to display a current overnight permit.

  • There are no RVs allowed at the Bivy Campground. The maximum vehicle length is 20 feet.

  • The campground restrooms and showers are on the north side of the Bivy parking lot.

  • Showers are available ONLY to those registered in the campground and locked nightly.

  • Tent sites are located 150+ feet to the south of the campground parking area. (NOTE: see seasonal closure information for this area)

  • There are 3 ADA designated 18’ x 18’ campsites.

  • Fires, smoking, and charcoal/wood barbecues are not allowed in the campground. Propane or gas stoves can be operated in the common area located at the parking lot.

  • Quiet hours are between 10:00 PM and 7:00 AM.

  • An appliance recharging station is available by the communal sink area. It 12 plug-ins, complete with a galvanized top for protection.

  • Pets have to be on a leash no longer than six feet long, cannot be left unattended and yes--their owners are required to clean up after them. 

Lastly--be nice to other pets and humans. Yours needs to be under control at all times when not in your car.
