Smith Rock State Park Opens Tomorrow—Here's What You Can Do to Help Keep It Open

May 13, 2019

A lot of love goes into the park from both staff and volunteers on a regular basis to provide a great experience for visitors. The Smith Rock Group even had a small group of board members spend the entire day yesterday working on clearing scree from trails to help keep everyone safe. Now is the opportunity for visitors to give back by respecting the guidelines in place for the partial reopening of Smith Rock after COVID-19 restrictions get lifted tomorrow morning.

What you can do:

  • Stay at home if you have to travel more than 50 miles to get here

  • Respect the reader board sign that will indicate when the parking areas are full and don’t enter

  • Park only in designated spaces (NOT on Wilcox or no parking areas of Crooked River Drive)

  • Keep your stay short so that others may use your parking spot

  • Maintain a social distance of 6’ from others not from your household

  • Respect the closures in place for both the Chute and Misery Ridge Trails

  • Bring everything you need for a short visit, and then pack everything out

  • Don’t stop on the footbridge—keep traffic moving, single file as indicated by signage

  • Respect the barricades!

Smith Rock is providing an opportunity for us to show our best selves and help keep it open. Let’s do everything we can to make that a reality.
