Smith Rock Water Fill-up Station Ingenuity

July 15, 2021

When Seasonal Ranger Patrick Tinsley was presented with a challenge to rethink a “rehydration station” for people and pups alike, he thought beyond functionality. He wanted to incorporate the natural surroundings of the park into the feature. The result? A beautifully sculpted rock bowl fountain by the Welcome Center that both you and Fido will love.

The actual task of chiseling into the rock, digging holes first to remove chunks of the rock, turned into a two-person task. He enlisted the strength and perseverance of Seasonal Ranger Megan Larson, then he ground it smooth to create the bowl shape, and drilled a hole for the piping. A great way to refill your favorite water bottle as you head into the park, as well as hydrate your furry friend before and after your fun in the park. Well done Patrick and Megan!
