Smith Rock Winterizes: Bivy Closes, Water Fill-up Stations Off
November 16, 2021
Tonight will be the last night for camping, and Wednesday, 11/17/2021, the Bivouac (camping) area will be officially closed for the season. Park management tells us that park staff will be starting a juniper thinning/fuel reduction project in the tent area at the “Bivy”, so park visitors on trails will need to stay out of that area as well during active work. Water fill-up stations by the Welcome Center and the bridge are already turned off due to freezing night-time temperatures.
That means that showers and bathrooms in the Bivy area are also closed, The only source of water through the winter is the main bathroom by the Welcome Center. Water bottles are available for sale at the Welcome Center, but only when staffing is available to keep it open and should not be relied upon.
Bivy bathrooms and showers are closed along with camping for the winter at Smith Rock.
The Smith Rock State Park Bivy Campground is closed for camping starting Wednesday, November 17, 2021.
