Early raptor nesting area closures at Smith Rock State Park are in effect starting Monday, January 10 to August 1, 2021, PARK WIDE for drones for the season, selected for climbing, and later for camping when the Bivy reopens. We’ll keep you posted on Facebook as well as the Seasonal Closures page as the restrictions lift in different areas over the summer for climbing.
Raptor nesting area closures are in effect starting next Saturday, February 1 to August 1, 2020. There is a PARK WIDE ban for drones for the season, and specific area restrictions for climbing and camping detailed below. We’ll keep you posted on Facebook as well as the Seasonal Closures page as the climbing restrictions lift in different areas over the summer.
Golden and Bald eagles closures are in effect starting this Friday, February 8, 2019 to August 1, 2019. They've been flying around actively amongst the crags courting, and possibly mating, according to the rumor mill. Eagle nesting site closures for climbing routes and camping along the Bivy rim at Smith Rock State Park will go into effect at that time, with detailed route closures by area below. Falcon nesting closures are coming on February 15.
Bald eagles closures are in effect now, as of February 6, 2018. They've been flying around actively amongst the crags and even seen mating this year. Other raptor nesting site closures for climbing and camping at Smith Rock State Park will go into effect Saturday, February 10, 2018.
Preemptive eagle nesting site closures for climbing and camping at Smith Rock State Park are in place as of February 7, 2015. Once the eagles have chosen their nest areas, we will post detailed maps as to which routes remain closed. See below for routes currently closed.
