"Summit Trail Santa" Comes to Town
December 23, 2020
Yes, if you saw someone in a red suit and black boots looking a lot like Santa on Rope-de-Dope the other day, you weren’t seeing things. “Summit Trail Santa,” AKA “Summit Trail Amy” among many other monikers we’ve dubbed this Smith Rock State Park trail angel and super volunteer, climbed up to clip an ornament on a route for the SmithRock.com annual holiday card. Kids hiking by with their parents and climbers at the base of the climbing block alike had their spirits lifted seeing Santa at the park.
While Summit Trail Santa kept socially distanced from all those who approached, she managed to put a smile on everyone. We could tell from their smiling eyes through their masks as they approached. As Santa was a newbie to climbing, her belay elf coached her through it, and in spite of Santa’s boots, all went well. And if you look closely at the banner image above, you may just see some miniature hikers that went for a ride on her sleeve:-)
Thanks, Amy for your wonderful spirit, the tireless enthusiasm you show to all visitors at the Welcome Center, your endless clean-up of the trails, and for sharing your wonderful views and trail conditions with us all year round! We celebrate you and all who give to the park.
